A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR MARK
David’s son, Solomon, would one day rule over Israel. However, Solomon’s older brother, Adonijah, made a move to push Solomon out of the way. Adonijah manipulated people and circumstances so he could become the next king. When King David found out, he proceeded to promote Solomon as king before Adonijah could take over. Solomon did not need to push and manipulate. He allowed God to work through people and found himself sitting on the throne. (The story of this is found in 1 Kings, chapter 1). In His Word, God tells us, “Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Luke 14:11). You don’t have to step on others to advance in God’s kingdom. Our new General Superintendent, George O. Wood, said, “Our job is not to climb the ladder of success but to descend the ladder of servanthood.” If we focus on serving, God will take care of the advancement.
