Hope for Tomorrow
#319, Hope for Tomorrow, Pastor Mark Boucher, Sunday 07-13-2008
Text: Psalm 112:1-10
Theme: YOU CAN
INTRODUCTION:
- How we look forward to the future is critical.
- In my devotions I read Psalm 112:7-8 “He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.”
- Americans struggle today with hope for tomorrow.
- I want to encourage you from the Word to move from any fear to hope for the future.
How can we anticipate good for the future?
It’s not just positive thinking but positive (godly) living.
How do we build a life that is lasting and blessed?
- Invest in the foundation (establish a solid past)
- Invest your life in relationship with the Lord. (v 1)
- Praise the Lord.
- Fear the Lord.
- Delight in His commands.
- Invest your life in the foundation of family. (v 2)
- “His children will be mighty in the land.” (v 2)
- Invest the ways of God into your children and they will bless your heart.
- Invest in your relationship with others. (v 4)
- “The gracious, and compassionate and righteous man.” (v 4b)
- Invest your life in relationship with the Lord. (v 1)
- Build with quality (a faithful present)
- Every day you’re building a life you live with tomorrow. Our future blessings are tied to present actions.
- Build with quality in your adversity. (v 4)
- There’s always light coming if you believe. (v 4)
- Let your trials humble you to seek God.
- Build with quality in your prosperity. (v 3)
- God allows us to have wealth and riches. (v 3a)
- “Whatever we have the pleasure of, He must have the praise of.” ~Matthew Henry
- God wants us to share what comes our way.
- “God will come to him who is generous and lends freely.” (v 5)
- Every day you’re building a life you live with tomorrow. Our future blessings are tied to present actions.
- Enjoy your future (a hope-filled future)
- If you establish a foundation … and build with quality.
- Your future hope is greater than any circumstance.
- “Good will come to you” (v 5)
- “He will never be shaken” (v 6)
- “He will have no fear of bad news” (v 7)
- You can look ahead to tomorrow.
- Tomorrow may not be better nationally, economically or even physically … but you are God’s child.
- As believers, we live by promises, not explanations.
- God will be there in tomorrow.
- You can look ahead to eternity.
- In the age ahead there will be no yesterday, today and tomorrow.
- We are promised God’s presence for the ages of eternity.
- If you establish a foundation … and build with quality.
