UP AND COMING

• Together in Prayer (January 9). Believers from this area will gather for prayer at 7:00 PM this Friday at the Marriott Hotel (formerly Royal Plaza Best Western) in Fitchburg. For more information, check out: standnewengland.org. Let’s come together in Jesus’ name!
• Ministry of Joy (January 10). This adult fellowship will meet this Saturday, 12:00-2:30 PM. Come for a great time of fellowship, worship, food and fun. If you plan to eat lunch with the group, please bring a dish to share.
• Department Heads Meeting (January 11). The quarterly meeting for all department heads will be held at 4:30 PM in Pastor Mark’s office. Please come prepared with activity dates, etc.
• Sunday Night Discipleship (January 11). SND classes are scheduled to begin again on Sunday, January 11, at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. This is a time of discussion of the previous week’s homework, singing, praise, prayer for one another, and the presentation of a new lesson in the series on The Beatitudes. For the next twelve weeks, we will spend two weeks on each lesson. Tuition is $1.00 per person each week. To learn more, stop by the Welcome Center where you will have the opportunity to sign up. Thank you.

At the beginning of the new year, I look forward to reading the Bible through again. As I read Genesis 1, I noticed God’s first spoken words, “Let there be light” (v. 3). Before He spoke this, “the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep” (v. 2). The description of emptiness and darkness followed by God’s Word and light gives us a powerful analogy of God’s work. Before Christ brought His light, I was in the dark—seeking to fill the empty void. When I repented, Jesus brought light and order—His salvation! May 2009 be filled with gratitude and worship to our God and Savior.
