Christian Education Spring 2009 Electives
February 22, 2009 by PastorDave.
Beginning Sunday, March 1 through May 31 2009, 10:00-10:50 AM
WELCOME to the Family
- Taught by Pastor Mark & Mark Collett
- This course meets in Pastor Mark’s office.
You are introduced to the purposes and vision of Leominster Assembly of God as well as the practices and policies of the church. This course is for anyone interested in becoming a member of our church and is a requirement for membership.
Drawing Closer to God
- Taught by Nunzio Nano
- This course will meet in the Triangle room next to the sanctuary.
This class is for all new Christians as well as any Christian who wants to draw closer to God. God says that if we draw close to Him, He will draw close to us. This is your chance to become the dynamic, joyful disciple of Christ that you have always wanted to be. This class is a requirement for membership.
Practical Christian Living
- Taught by Harry Marshall
- This class will meet at the Johnny Appleseed Elementary School across the street from the church.
You will discover that just like people who were touched by Jesus because of their faith, adults today will find Jesus can forgive their sins, meet their needs, and teach them how to live in today’s world.
The Five Love Languages of Children
- Taught by Pastor Dave & Tatiana
- This class will meet at the Johnny Appleseed Elementary School across the street from the church.
Kids desperately need to know how much you love them. But if you don’t know their special “love language,” you might as well be speaking gibberish. Every child (like every adult) expresses and receives love best through one of five communication styles. Find out which one of these your child speaks and begin to break down relationship barriers!
Holy Spirit Series
- Taught by Jean Meppelink
- This class will meet at the Johnny Appleseed Elementary School across the street from the church.
In the Bible, the Holy Spirit is never ignored or treated as a vague influence or force of energy. He is treated as a person. Spirit, or pneuma in Greek, is a neutral word, but John uses personal, masculine pronouns to refer to Him. Jesus said, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever–the Spirit of truth … you know him, he lives with you and will be in you” (John 14:17).
Rediscovering Judaic Roots of Our Faith in the Bible
- Taught by Fumio Taku (Starts March 8 )
- This class will meet at the Johnny Appleseed Elementary School across the street from the church.
Our Christian experience is greatly enriched, and our faith strengthened, by studying the Jewish roots of our faith. We gain a deeper understanding of God’s Word and His commissions to us as we learn His covenants and the manner of life in which Jesus and His Jewish forefathers lived.
CHILDREN’S & YOUTH CLASSES
2s and 3s ~ Christine Salliby
Through stories of Moses and the Ten Commandments, kids will learn that the Bible is a special book, written for us to live by. They will discover the joy of Easter through stories about Jesus’ death and resurrection. The story of Joseph will show kids how families love, help, and forgive each other. The young ones find out how God will take care of them just like He took care of Elijah when he needed food and when he traveled.
4s and 5s ~ Sally Dyer and Heidi Antunes
This class will “meet” three kings: Solomon who was the wisest, Joash who grew up and repaired God’s temple, and Hezekiah who asked God to heal him. They will learn that Jesus is the King of all. Kids will hear about His triumphant entry into Jerusalem, how He served His friends and prayed, and about His victory over death. These students will explore unforgettable stories about Jonah, three Hebrew men thrown into a fiery furnace, Daniel in the lion’s den, Queen Esther, and Elijah’s ride into heaven.
1st and 2nd Grade ~ Rick and JoAnn Boehm
Kids will explore Joseph’s time as a slave and prisoner, his miraculous rise to rulership, and his gracious forgiveness of his brothers. They will discover that Jesus’ resurrection makes our salvation possible. They’ll also look at stories about Thomas, Jesus’ ascension into heaven, and His promise to return. Stories from Moses’ life share how he was rescued by a princess, called by God through a burning bush, and saw God work powerfully to free His people through plagues and miraculous signs.
3rd and 4th Grade ~ Debbie Nurnberger
This class will learn about Jesus’ suffering on the cross, why He is called the Lamb of God, and what He said about leaving the earth. Through Bible facts about how life will be during the millennial reign of Jesus, kids will get to explore end times. They will also discover how they can show spiritual fruit as they learn the purpose of the baptism in the Holy Spirit and look at the lives of Bible people.
5th and 6th Grade ~ Peter Kovacs, Alethea Morris, Kim Johnson
Through Hebrew poetry, kids will gain appreciation for expressing the struggles and joys of serving God and will be challenged to live for Him. They will explore the different names of Jesus and how He fulfills each name. Students will discuss the term born again and explore how the baptism in the Holy Spirit can help every believer grow spiritually.
Middle School ~ Thaddeus and Dagii Bell
Through biblical examples, students will gain insight into how to properly process emotions such as anger, bitterness, frustration, and anguish. Students will discover what was important to Jesus and how He can transform their lives through the events leading up to His crucifixion, death, and resurrection. Through stories about kings, students will find out that poor choices yield poor results. A final lesson on Pentecost shows students why the Holy Spirit came and how He can impact their lives.
High School ~ Pastor Darryl Riehle, Bob Tomic
Students will discover that worship goes beyond songs in a church service; it expands to a complete lifestyle where everything we do can become a devoted offering of worship to God. Because our popular culture can blur the distinction between light and dark, students will study the godly principles for ethical challenges that students face. Living in a world that is straying further from God’s truth, the students will explore biblical truths that address some of the world’s lies.

A WORD FROM PASTOR MARK
February 22, 2009 by PastorMark.
We give what we get. Joshua followed Moses in leading the Israelites into the Promised Land. The task of driving the entrenched inhabitants out of the land required great power and skill. This was way over Joshua’s head, and he knew he had to trust in God. The Lord repeatedly told Joshua, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Joshua 8:1). From this message deeply embedded in Joshua’s heart, he was able to lead the Israelites into great victories. After a great victory over five kings, Joshua told the soldiers, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Be strong and courageous” (10:25). Joshua gave what he received from God. What are you receiving from God?

A WORD FROM PASTOR MARK
February 15, 2009 by PastorMark.
God loves seeing His people help each other. As I am reading Deuteronomy, I discovered a promise God proclaimed about someone willing to help a “needy brother.” Deuteronomy 15:10 says, “Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.” God’s ways are often opposite of man’s ways. We tend to grasp and hoard. God says to love and give. The blessings of God come to those who are generous.

A WORD FROM PASTOR MARK
February 8, 2009 by PastorMark.
As I read the book of Numbers, I am fascinated by the account of King Balak, Balaam, and Israel. The king of Moab (Balak) tried to get Balaam (the “prophet for hire”) to curse the Israelites. God, however, turned the tables. In an utterance by the prophet Balaam, God spoke through him declaring, “There is no sorcery against Jacob, no divination against Israel” (Numbers 23:23). Instead of being cursed, the people of Israel received a blessing! As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit within us. The Apostle John declares, “The one who is in you is greater than the one in the world” (1 John 4:4). We don’t have to fear those who would try to curse us or cast spells because Jesus is all powerful!
