A WORD FROM PASTOR MARK
April 19, 2009 by PastorMark.
Recently, while standing in a line, I heard someone at the end of the line jokingly say, “The last shall be first.” Jesus said this in Matthew 19:30, “But may who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.” The context of this statement involved Jesus speaking to His disciples about how difficult it would be for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven (v. 23). By inverting the first and last, Jesus teaches us to live with the values of eternity in mind. What seems so important here will not be esteemed in heaven, and those who seem to be people of little significance here may find themselves first in line there. What matters most is not title, wealth, or looks, but simple faith in Jesus working through love.
