The Apostle Paul accomplished so much in his life. Of course, we know it was the Holy Spirit working through him, but he also needed to yield to God and His will. Paul’s effectiveness can also be attributed to his intense focus of purpose. In Colossians 1:28-29, we read of his “job description” or “life purpose statement” concerning his work. He wrote, “We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.” From Paul’s statement, I realize that a productive, fruitful Christian life requires a tenacious focus on the purposes of God. What is your purpose?

Sometimes we forget who he is. Christians read about Jesus, listen to sermons, and think about Him often. However, in the midst of a trial, our minds can experience a white out. In Mark 4 we see the disciples crossing the lake at night and Jesus asleep on a cushion. In panic, they awaken Him because of the fierce storm. Jesus got up, rebuked the storm, and challenged the disciples about their faith. Their reaction was “Who is this? Even the wind and waves obey Him!” (Mark 4:41). May we never forget the power of Jesus. If He is in us, we have all we need for life and victory. Let’s show our faith in Him—even in the storms.

Leominster Assembly of God purchased property in the Spring of 2007 and plans to build an addition to the present facility. The new addition will be explored in more detail in 2009, giving us the opportunity to continue paying down our existing mortgage. The adjacent land was purchased for $700,000 and the church was able to put $100,000 down. From June of 2007 until present, we have paid down our debt to under 450,000. The Lord is good and continues to bless us as we make steady progress.

When the time feels right, we will look at starting the actual building program. Through prayer and wise planning, we endeavor to stay out of unmanageable debt and pay as much as possible as we go. Please pray and give, and together we will see the unfolding of God’s work here in this local church.

People are starving for truth and purpose, but they are looking in all the wrong places. Ezekiel, the prophet, also lived in a time of rebellion and spiritual famine. God told Ezekiel, “But you, son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not rebel like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you” (Ezekiel 2:8). God promises inner nourishment to those who listen to Him and feed on His Word. He provides, and we must simply obey … and not rebel.

I believe we are living in the season of the Lord’s return. The signs spoken of by Jesus and the prophets continue to unfold before our eyes. Jesus prepares us for these days by giving “advanced warnings” concerning trials and perilous times to come. So that we would not be afraid or discouraged, He said, “In your patience possess ye your souls” (Luke 21:19, KJV). To go through difficult trials takes much patience and perseverance. As Christians we don’t have to panic because patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit which God is so willing to share with His children. No matter how chaotic the world becomes, we can walk in peace and perseverance through the power of Jesus!

A man with leprosy exercised faith in Jesus. He came and knelt before Jesus and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean” (Matthew 8:2). Rather than giving up when we are sick, we can humble ourselves before Jesus and ask Him for help. Have others pray with you and keep the eyes of your heart on Jesus. If we are yielded to Him, He will comfort us and speak to our hearts in the midst of our adversity. Jesus told the leper, “I am willing…. Be clean” (v. 3). Our Lord is gracious and compassionate to those who come to Him. May we also exercise our faith by calling on Him. He will speak to us and help us in our time of need.
